Abstract

BORGES, Volnei; ZABADAL, Jorge R  and  RIBEIRO, Vinicius G. Simulation of energy deposition by photons and electrons using the Boltzmann equation. Rev. cienc. tecnol. [online]. 2016, n.26, pp.26-33. ISSN 1851-7587.

Procedures involving the use of ionizing radiation in the biomedical field has been investigated in recent years - in particular as regards the determination of the energy deposited in human tissue in patients undergoing radiation. In this context, this paper presents a methodology for the calculation of the absorbed dose, the build-up factor and the energy deposited in the materials used to simulate human tissue and other screens used in projects. The random processes of interaction of photons and electrons with these materials were simulated by mathematical methods for solving to solve the transport equation with approximations of the scattering kernel of Klein-Nishina and Rutherford scattering cores applied to the Fokker-Planck equation.

Keywords : Absorbed Dose; Deposited Energy; Transport Equation; Klein-Nishina; Fokker-Planck.
