Abstract

MARTINEZ DUARTE, Juan A.. Schemes of compensation for ecosystem services in Argentina. Rev. cienc. tecnol. [online]. 2019, n.31, pp.1-10. ISSN 1851-7587.

Environmental services are vital and, to promote more effectively the conservation and hydrological forest restoration of the ecosystems located in the watersheds, renewed mechanisms of economic compensation are required for the owners of the properties with these ecosystems. The objective of this paper is to analyze compensation schemes for existing ecosystem services and propose actions to improve their efficiency. With regard to the materials and methodologies, background analyzes and interviews were conducted. The basin survey wascarried out with the Geographical Information System and ground inspections were carried out. As a result, compensation mechanisms for ecosystem services in force in Argentina were characterized, proposing actions to improve their effectiveness. It is concluded that there is a need to improve the current payment schemes, and it is recommended to systematize the information and apply the proposed actions to achieve the conservation of the lands that provide ecosystem services.
