Abstract
AGUIRRE, Javier and TILLMAN, Rachel. Religion in the public sphere or religion for the public sphere? A dialogue between Deleuze, Guattari and Habermas on vampirism, religion and democracy. Estud. filos. práct. hist. ideas [online]. 2016, vol.18, n.2, pp.9-27. ISSN 1851-9490.
This article seeks to establish a dialogue between Habermas’ view of the role of religion in the public sphere and Deleuze and Guattari’s conception of religion as a War Machine that they develop in A Thousand Plateaus. Through an exploration of Žižek’s critique that Habermas’s view of religion engages in a kind of ideological vampirism and an analysis of a concrete political case in Colombia, we analyze the philosophical resources that these thinkers bring to understanding the problematic relationship between religion, democracy and political parties.
Keywords : Religion; Habermas; Deleuze-Guattari; Public Sphere; War Machine.
