Abstract

This essay will aim to analyze the cultural reception of Catholicism in our continent focusing in a segment of reading scenes from Latin America. In order to achieve this, we will considerate the background of studies about cultural transposition and the shock produced by the encounter of European and Amerindian cultures involved in our continent's history, as well as the reflections developed by Dependency Theory. Beginning with the comparison between Darcy Ribeiro's Marxist anthropology and Juan Carlos Scannone's populist Liberation Theology, I will attempt to study the relation between Liberation Theology's biblical exegesis and Silviano Santiago's theories about the space in-between of Latin Americans culture, placed in the field of reading theories of the occidental legacy in Latin America.
