Abstract

LUCIANO, Milena. The Penitentiary of Cordoba: Construction Process, Internal Regime, and Institutional Tensions, 1887-1907. Prohistoria [online]. 2014, vol.21, pp.131-155. ISSN 1851-9504.

This article addresses the institutional tensions between the authorities involved in the administration of Cordoba Prison, in their early years. While such a situation would express struggles over the administration model, it was also a process influenced by unfavorable infrastructural conditions going back to the times of the public prison: prisoners overcrowding, poor sanitary conditions and spaces. In this context, attempts to implement an internal regime and form a cadre of officials were made. Although these officials were specific in administrative terms, would have lacked the autonomy to establish themselves as a prison bureaucracy

Keywords : Prison administration; Internal regime; Prison infrastructure; Life in prison.
