In the exploratory and expansionistic context of Eighteenth Century and beginnings of Nineteenth Century, the expeditions that obtained data to add in the line of Natural History took importance. In this paper we analyze the descriptions of Felix de Azara and Alcide d' Orbigny about the populations of Paraguay and Rio de la Plata to compare periods and ethnic and racial classifications. We intend to give account of the underlying political objectives, the scientific paradigms related to each of the racial typologies that contributed to the consolidation of racial and social divisions
