Abstract

BLASCO, María Elida. The Mitre legacy: Museums, monuments and tribute actions on the construction of Bartolomé Mitre as a national hero. Prohistoria [online]. 2015, vol.24, pp.123-153. ISSN 1851-9504.

This article rebuilds the contexts upon which certain initiatives on the setting up of museums, exhibition spaces, monuments and tribute actions in honor to Mitre arosed in the city of Buenos Aires and Buenos Aires province. It also analyses some of the attributes and characteristics assigned to the national hero after his death. The research begins in 1906 with the organisation of the Mitre Museum and the authorisation to build monuments in Buenos Aires and La Plata, and finishes by 1942, when the monument was finally unveiled in the capital of Buenos Aires province and the tributes paid by government officials and the province people were terminated
