Abstract
DE MELLO, Diana Bento and VAZQUEZ, Alejandra. Cultural policy and gender, an approach based on two cases in Latin America. Runa [online]. 2020, vol.41, n.2, pp.49-66. ISSN 1851-9628. http://dx.doi.org/10.34096/runa.v41i2.8852.
The article analyzes how the gender issue is expressed in everyday life and in the management of cultural policies oriented to music in Argentina and Brazil. With an anthropological approach, we analyze data from two cases: the National Program of Choirs and Children’s and Youth Orchestras of the Bicentennial in Buenos Aires and the Samba as a contemporary cultural movement of artists, cultural workers and cultural managers of Rio de Janeiro. Conceiving public and cultural policies as a field of dispute and of articulation between civil society and the State, and thinking of the gender dimension as constitutive of social relations, we postulate that the absence of a question regarding gender issues tends to reproduce pre-existing inequalities and hegemonic stereotypes of masculinities, feminities and other gender identities.
