Abstract

ALVAREZ AVILA, Carolina. Participatory mapping: being affected, commitments and effects. Runa [online]. 2022, vol.43, n.1, pp.247-266.  Epub Feb 04, 2022. ISSN 1851-9628.  http://dx.doi.org/10.34096/runa.v43i1.9835.

Within the framework of an extension project with Comechingonas-Sanavironas communities in the northwest of Córdoba province, we came across experiences that challenged us to think about our work, the methods and techniques used for territorial surveys, as well as the affections and effects involved in participatory mapping. In this work I describe the sensitive experience of walking the Yastay path, in the difficulties of a mountain way closed in its dense vegetation but also open for us. Walking it allowed us to know ceremonial and affective places where spirits and other non-humans inhabit, as well as rethinking relationships and mutual affectations when surveying the territory. We review the prejudices and ignorance with which we started our work and the commitments we made when walking with the communities, thus showing that there are different forms of indigenous landing and participatory mapping.

Keywords : Territory; Territory Survey; Participatory mapping; Comechingon communities; Being affected.
