Abstract
BROGUET, Julia. “Hanging the drum”. An ethnographic analysis of generational experiences around the practice of Afro-Uruguayan candombe in Paraná and Rosario (Argentina). Runa [online]. 2022, vol.43, n.2, pp.343-359. Epub June 27, 2022. ISSN 1851-9628. http://dx.doi.org/10.34096/runa.v43i2.8738.
The present work aims to characterize the generational experiences objectified by Afro-Uruguayan candombe practitioners from Rosario and Paraná. Such practitioners began in this manifestation between the late 1990s and early 2000s and use age marks to distinguish themselves from groups that temporarily precede them. The experiences associated with different “generations” are linked to particular ways of doing/experiencing Afro-Uruguayan candombe -with a “hanging drum” or in a “song” format- which include aspects associated with politics, aesthetic exploration and identity processes. In this way, we seek to review and delve into the role of certain age markers in the framework of a broader ethnographic investigation that has already been completed.
