Abstract

PINQUE, Germán. Rural neighborhoods and tourism in the Sierras de Córdoba: economic reconversion and social antagonisms mediated by cultural categories. Runa [online]. 2023, vol.44, n.2, pp.253-265.  Epub July 01, 2023. ISSN 1851-9628.  http://dx.doi.org/10.34096/runa.v44i2.11289.

The text presented below constitutes the adaptation and development of a master’s thesis presented at the Faculty of Philosophy and Humanities (UNC). The research, of an ethnographic nature, was carried out during the years 2004 and 2005 and had as objective to describe and analyze the processes of socioeconomic reconversion and the social antagonisms triggered by the arrival of tourism in a rural neighborhood of Sierras Grandes, Province of Cordova. This work, for its part, focuses on the meaning and role of two sociocultural categories: position and shelter. With them reference is made, from the perspective of the actors, to the local socioeconomic units, but, from the perspective of analysis that is developed here, to symbols that reflect, thematize and communicate economic rationalities and fundamental social and political distinctions, to the time they articulate an us/them relationship that structures the practices, relationships and social representations of the neighborhood.

Keywords : Economic reconversion; Tourism; Rural neighborhoods; Cultural categories; Social antagonisms.
