Abstract

This article analyzed the thoughts of Francisco Barroetaveña. This politician is considered to be one of the most representative referents to Argentinian classical liberal tradition between the late XIX century and beginnings of the XX. His also renowned for his participation at the foundation and consolidation of the Radical Party as well as his close relationship with Leandro N. Alem. This article makes its way through the path of this character with in his interventions in the Parliament and the press. Barroetaveña´s liberal reflections about topics such as the relationship between the Catholic Church and the State, the phenomenon of Mass Migration, Social Question, Federalism and economic protectionism are examined. On other hand his interventions of the UCR after the passing of Alem are described as establishing as one of the referents of the opposition to the leadership of the Hipólito Yrigoyen and his party style conduction.
