The aim of this paper is to provide a unitary profile of Gino Germani thought. To do this, the author analytically confronts all the central themes of his thought, and also all those problems that still thickens on his name and his work. Focused on the problematic relationship between modernity and secularization in its relations with the modern authoritarianism, the article deals with the different stages of Germani's reasoning development, and the various issues that intersect with this theme at various levels of research, from the 1940s until 1979, the year of his death. They are essential tools for understanding the contemporary crisis even today.
