Abstract

Middle way or dead end? Christian Democrat followers in Argentina from the early XX Century to the 1960s

The history of Christian democracy is usually divided into two major fields of study. On the one hand, the study of the first decades of the 20th century and on the other, the analysis of the parties created after the World War II. This article, focused on the Argentine case, discusses these approaches by offering some hypotheses that would allow reconnecting both periods. The first section deals with the early Christian democrat political groups in the 1910s and the second one concentrates in the 1960s, when the Christian Democratic Party achieved its best electoral results.

Keywords : Catholic parties; Christian democracy; Secularization; Social Catholicism; Humanism.
