Abstract

LANDA, Carlos  and  COLL, Luis V J.. ARCHEOLOGY OF A MONUMENTAL LANDSCAPE OF WAR BATELE OF LA VERDE (1874), 25 DE MAYO, BUENOS AIRES PROVINCE, ARGENTINA. Relaciones [online]. 2020, vol.45, n.1, pp.1-25. ISSN 0325-2221.

One of the most visible and persuasive types of memory is the monumental landscape. The monumentality of war emphasizes these characteristics even more because it is evocative and associated closely to glorious and traumatic events. The commemoration of a battle is the result of the actions of entrepreneurs of memory who want to set their vision of the event and their eternal memory in a space. They seek to erect a spatial memory by imposing material marks that condense multiple signifiers. In this work, we will analyze the monumental landscape of the Battle of La Verde. For thispurpose, multiple kind of analysis will be integrated: spatial analysis and excavation, historical documentation; and oral memory. The results of these analyses allowed us to reconstruct the history of the war monumental landscape and its changes (1876-2016), as well as to understand the role played by materiality and spatial imaginaries constructed by current local communities.

Keywords : monumentality - memory - space - war conflict - "La Verde, 1874".
