Abstract

HOCSMAN, Salomón  and  BABOT, María del Pilar. THE NOTION OF RIZOME AS A PERSPECTIVE ON THE TRANSIT FROM HUNTER- GATHERERS TO AGRO-PASTORAL SOCIETIESIN ANTOFAGASTA DE LA SIERRA(CATAMARCA). Relaciones [online]. 2023, vol.48, suppl.1, pp.5-6. ISSN 0325-2221.  http://dx.doi.org/10.24215/18521479e045.

It is proposed to address the transition from hunters to agro-pastoralist societies in the case of Antofagasta de la Sierra, located in the high deserts of the province of Catamarca, from the notion of rhizome, following the conceptualization of Deleuze and Guattari (1980a and b, 2002). Its use here is consideredparticularly appropriate because in the rhizome there is no linear structure but multiple and heterogeneous connections and, mainly, there is no points of beginning and end. One benefit of its use is that a teleologicalperspective of progress is avoided. Addressing the transition from the rhizome also allows working with scenarios at different scales that were surely extremely variable, with people making different choices about how to develop their life in the same places Thus, the utility of the concept is explored, applying it to different synchronous and diachronic situations typical of the configuration of the local process.

Keywords : transition; rizome; hunter gatherers; agro pastoralist societies; ArgentineanPuna.
