In this paper we describe the activities carried out by pre-Hispanic populations in the Abra del Toro rock shelter, after the great eruption of the Cerro Blanco Volcanic Complex. This rock shelter is located south of the Yocavil Valley and has a stratified record. The activities were reconstructed from the analysis of lithic, ceramic, archaeofaunal and anthracological materials. The results obtained allow us to argue that around the first millennium A.D., the rock shelter was occupied on a recurrent basis, functioning complementarily with a nearby lithic workshop and maintaining stylistic and ceramic production connections with other contemporary sites in the region. A substantial contribution of this work is to demonstrate that this space was re-occupied after a catastrophic event, persisting in the memory of pre-Hispanic populations.
