ALAVAR, Alvaro J.; KORSTANJE, Alejandra and CHAUQUE, Guillermo. FIRSTRESULTS OF THE STUDY OFMICROFOSSILSIN COMBUSTIONRESIDUES FROM THE POZO DE LA CHOLA SITE, SAN FRANCISCO VALLEY, JUJUY, ARGENTINA. The recognition of intra site activity areas and the recovery of organic remains in forests usually present limitations in relation to visibüity and conservation. However, the study of micro- remains has allowed to overcome the se limitations and to expand knowledge around the relationship between human groups and plants. The result of micro remains from plants studied from a sample of ashes extracted from the hearth at the Pozo de la Chola site are presented. Multiple microfossil analysis protocol was followed to preserve fragile microfossil assemblages. Silicophytoliths and starches, together with other materials, allowed us to glimpse practices related to the processing, cooking and disposal of food from plants related to corn (Zea mays), beans (Phaseolus vulgaris), chili (Capsicum sp.), and the use ofwild monocots of the Cannaceae, Arecaceae andBromeliaceae families. As well as woody dicots, possibly as fuel.
