Abstract

ANSALDI, Waldo. La fuerza de las palabras: revolución y democracia en el Río de la Plata, 1810-1820. Estud. - Cent. Estud. Av., Univ. Nac. Córdoba [online]. 2010, n.24, pp.13-28. ISSN 1852-1568.

After consideration of the revolution as a classic of social science, this paper raises the need to revisit the issue at the time of the bicentenary of Latin American independence since the dissolution of colonial rule in Latin America was achieved through processes that, despite their historical, should be defined and explained as revolutions. The relationship between democracy and revolution are abstract and can be raised from different theoretical perspectives and even future political projects. In this paper we historicize such relationships in a space and a specific period: the Rio de la Plata between 1810 and 1820, a period that begins with the anti-colonial revolution which led to the declaration of independence, culminating in the defeat of the radical project Artigas was, at the same time, the defeat of the revolution and democracy.

Keywords : Political language-revolution; Democracy; Independence; Dominant groups.
