Abstract

CASAS, Matías Emiliano. La Asociación Folklórica Argentina: un “antídoto” para la cultura de masas a escala regional (1938-1942). Sociohistórica [online]. 2019, n.43, pp.74-74. ISSN 1852-1606.  http://dx.doi.org/https://doi.org/18521606e074.

In May of 1937 the Argentine Folkloric Association (AFA) was founded in the city of Buenos Aires. The initiative of an eclectic group of professionals was supported and directed by the jurist Santo Faré. The novel group was inserted in a context of growth of academic studies focused on folklore and proliferation of associations that claimed the rural area as the core of national identity. The intervention in a society that understood distorted by various factors was reflected in different initiatives. The publication of a bulletin as an official organ for four years was perhaps the most lasting in those foundational times. This article analyzes how the AFA thought about the promotion of folklore, the criticism of contemporary society –centered on the circulating cultural products–, and the ways of linking with pre-existing associations –mainly international– from the pages of its bulletin.

Keywords : Argentine Folkloric Association; Sociability; Mass culture; Argentinidad.
