The aim of this article is to analyze the current situation (2016-2019) regarding Argentina’s population's capacity to reproduce its labour force. In order to do so, the minimum requirements considered are the households' purchasing power to acquire the consumption basket specifically estimated for each group of households (defined as an expansion of the total basic basket of goods according to its members’ productive attributes) and the compliance with the conditions socially established by the State in the labour relationship of the main breadwinner in terms of its registration in the social security system and the extension of working hours. The main source of information is the Permanent Household Survey.

The evidence presented shows that in addition to the 30.7 % of the population that on average was below the poverty line during the period, 28.2 % of the population lived in households with insufficient income to cover their specific basket of goods and/or whose main breadwinner presented a precarious labour market insertion. Therefore, only 40 % of the population reproduces its labour force in a way that satisfies the minimum conditions considered in this document.
