Abstract

REY, Darío Raúl. Rounded atelectasis: A sign to recognize and understand. Rev. am. med. respir. [online]. 2021, vol.21, n.3, pp.313-320. ISSN 1852-236X.

Asbestosis continues to be a serious problem in the respiratory occupational pathology of the XXI century. Countries which have an efficient control and surveillance system, estimate the decrease in its incidence and prevalence by 2050.

Carcinogenic effects of the asbesto have justified that ILO and WHO make illegal the use of the mineral in work activities and that if possible, to be replaced by other materials with the same function and without the risks that it implies

It is necessary to become familiar with the radiographic appearance in thorax of the diverse clinical forms exposed by Asbestosis.

Round atelectasis is often mistaken as a lung tumor. The directed anamnesis, work history and habits of the patient, as well as the current radiological techniques, make it possible to avoid an unnecessary biopsy or surgery.
