Blunt trauma to the trachea can cause acute airway involvement, with life-threatening implications. They represent 5-10% of all trauma cases, and are accompanied by a mortality of approximately 1-7%, requiring early diagnosis and management. The organs frequently injured are: vascular structures, in 20%, and it is estimated that the air and digestive tracts are compromised in 10% of cases.
