Abstract
NAVARRETE HURTADO, Solón; CASTELLANOS MEJIA, Ana María and CHAPARRO SANABRIA, Andrea. Cardiotoxicity due to chemotherapy: A practical approach for clinicians. Insuf. card. [online]. 2011, vol.6, n.3, pp.131-143. ISSN 1852-3862.
Cardio toxicity is a common adverse effect of chemotherapy. This can be manifested through different ways, from the transitory elevation of blood pressure, bradycardia, hypotension, arrhythmias; to a non reversible cardiac insufficiency. Different risk factors exist associated with cardiovascular complications, due to: accumulate doses, total administrated doses on a cycle or day, dose administration time, patient age, sex, mediastinal antecedents, and disorder in the electrolytes. Effects due to these complications should be studied and analyzed before starting chemotherapy. This analysis should be carefully studied with the designed methods such as: echocardiograms, isotopic ventriculography, and cardiac biomarkers. This receives a symptomatic management, and prevention is the key to prevent cardio toxicity development.
