Abstract
HUTER, Estefanía and LOPEZ CASTRO, Natalia. Family farms and social reproduction in the pampas "core zone" (Department of Constitución, Santa Fe, Argentina). SaberEs [online]. 2017, vol.9, n.2, pp.227-250. ISSN 1852-4418.
The currently dominant agrarian model in the Pampas region has revived the discussion on the persistence of alternative ways of organizing production such as family farming. This paper aims to reflect on the position of family farming today, investigating in particular the ways in which these subjects achieve their social reproduction and the structural and socio-cultural aspects that condition them. For this, is made an analysis of the diversified family production in the department of Constitución, in the south of Santa Fe, an area of strong agricultural specialization, belonging to the so-called "core zone" of the Pampas region. A series of cases were selected to analyze in detail and reconstruct their productive schemes, and the structural and subjective, identity elements that come into play in the configuration of the options that have allowed them to sustain their activity in a context of growing conditioning. Also considered are the main economic linkages of the farms to the surrounding areas. The paper formulates, as final comments, some reflections on the complex position (and situation) of family agriculture today.
