Abstract

DI CAPUA, Laura. alaried employments ir Argentina: characteristics and consequences of labor formalization during the 2003-2013. SaberEs [online]. 2018, vol.10, n.1, pp.37-65. ISSN 1852-4418.

This paper approaches empirically the main aspects of labor formalization of salaried workers during 2003-2013. It studies transitions between occupational statuses, the relationship between economic activity and transitions from informal employment to formal employment, the incidence of certain individual characteristics of workers on the odds of making such transitions and the consequences on incomes and hours of work of men and women resulting from those transitions. Results show that informal workers are more vulnerable as regards their job insertion, and that informality is a structural feature of the labor market in Argentina. Besides, those who change their job status from informal worker to formal worker show differentpersonal and household characteristics compared to those who remain informal, and an increase in real hourly wages and hours of work are also noticed among the group of workers that leave informality towards formality.

Keywords : Informality; Labor transitions; Labor incomes.
