Abstract

FREDIANI, Julieta C.. The problem of informal habitat in peri-urban areas in La Plata district. Rev. Univ. geogr. [online]. 2013, vol.22, n.1, pp.43-67. ISSN 1852-4265.

The urban expansion of La Plata district in recent decades has been accompanied by the occupation of new areas on the border between urban and non-urban areas. In this heterogeneous and dynamic peri-urban space low-and high-income sectors compete for vacant spaces, being land-grabbing by low-income sectors, the predominant mode of access to land. The aim of this work is to contribute to the knowledge of the logic and actors that characterize informal urbanization in peri-urban areas of our district to formulate comprehensive policies that bring order on this type of expansion. The methodology used for a more comprehensive approach to the problems of habitat will be qualitative through the articulation of the different actors involved. The methodological approach is based on a path of confrontation between the theory and reality, where the value lies in the problematization of what is intended to investigate. The main results of our research have allowed us to recognize and characterize the different strategies adopted by the social actors involved in this process of expansion, according to their logic and specific interests.

Keywords : Informal Habitat; Peri-urban areas; Public and Private Actors.
