The aim of this paper is to analyze beef market by linking the concepts of market, international trade, state institutions and policies at global-national-local scale in relation to the restrictions imposed by foot and mouth disease in rodeos. Argentine beef has been praised for its quality and presence in international markets over decades, especially during the first decades of 20th century. We analyze the consequences of foot and mouth disease in the Argentine cattle market by applying geographical concepts in order to understand the functioning and organization of institutions on different scales. Based on the information obtained from primary and secondary sources, public-private actions supporting the meat trade were interpreted.
