Abstract
PICONE, Natasha and LINARES, Santiago. Propuesta metodológica para la extracción y análisis de densidades urbanas mediante teledetección y SIG. Caso de estudio: ciudad de Tandil, Argentina. Rev. Univ. geogr. [online]. 2014, vol.23, n.2, pp.77-96. ISSN 1852-4265.
One of the main concerns in Geographical Information Technology research is to develop methodologies that can be replicated in different cities and to explain the urbanization process. The aim of this work is to develop a new methodology to extract built-up surface areas and determine their density variance. The methodology is based on Landsat 5 TM satellite images which have a wide territorial and timetable coverage, thus ensuring the replication process. Firstly, a radiometric calibration was carried out; a second stage involved a non-supervised classification, which allowed the identification of five well defined construction density categories. Using the real signature for each category, reconstruction involved applying a spectral mixture procedure. The specific signatures of each category were obtained and applied in urban studies especially in urban density research. The methodology development and analysis was carried out in the city of Tandil (Argentina) from 1989 to 2011. Thus, the magnitude of urban expansion in the last 20 years was successfully known.
