Abstract

JENSEN, Karina  and  BIRCHE, Mariana. Diagnóstico integral del periurbano platense: población extranjera, fragilidad ambiental y disfunciones urbanas. Rev. Univ. geogr. [online]. 2022, vol.31, n.2, pp.109-134. ISSN 1852-4265.

The study of peri-urban space implies a complex approach to the territory, largely due to its constitution as an interface area permeated by both rural and urban dynamics. Within this framework, this research aims to analyze territorial transformations (1991-2019 period) from a comprehensive perspective in order to provide a diagnosis that will allow the generation of bases for the planning of the peri-urban space of La Plata. For this purpose, the methodology is based on an analysis of changes in land use, demographic data and the advance of the urban sprawl over the open space system. In second instance, population dynamics, their influence on production methods and also on the transformation of the traditional rural landscape were analyzed. Finally, in the third phase, a synthesis and conclusions of the diagnosis were reached, which seek to lay the foundations for improving the peri-urban policies and planning. The results are organized in three dimensions: environmental, social and urban and allowed visualizing different problems of the area. As main conclusions, we can mention the high growth of the area under greenhouses in the period 2010-2016 (376%), which means a continuous decrease of available land for production and the displacement of the fruit and vegetable belt. Thus, the green belt is currently operating without a strategic plan that integrates both the urban-territorial issue and the social and environmental issue.
