Abstract

FERNANDEZ, Sandra N.; PEREZ, Daniel E.; FLORES, Miguel A.  and  ABALO, Pablo O.. Análisis de los factores de peligrosidad ante eventos de inundación de la ciudad de General Daniel Cerri (Buenos Aires, Argentina). Rev. Univ. geogr. [online]. 2023, vol.32, n.2, pp.162-184. General Daniel Cerri (GDC) is located on the Bahía Blanca estuary in a highly anthropized area where two watercourses converge leading to recurrent flooding events. There is a need for better understanding of the hazards associated with these events due to the area’s population growth. The objectives of this study are to identify interferences with natural runoff (GDC Ring), locate and characterize hydraulic structures, determine the probabilities of occurrence of extraordinary wind tides and generate flood hydrographs (HEC-HMS) for specific recurrence interval storms. The terrain model was developed using images from the National Geographic Institute, which helped identify the embankment ring and its hydraulic structures. The simulation showed maximum flows, peak arrival times, discharge volumes, and flood hydrographs for the watercourses converging in the area. Extraordinary wind tides were characterized using a statistical model. The results provide water volumes and the time lag in the arrival of the flood. The sea levels reach values that allow saltwater to enter the Ring causing a drowning of the runoff. This collection of results provides relevant information for urban development.
