Abstract
RE, Anahí and BELARDI, Juan Bautista. Rock paintings and communication in the Tar and San Martin lakes basin (Santa Cruz province). Rev. Mus. Antropol. [online]. 2019, vol.12, n.1, pp.73-84. ISSN 1852-060X.
Abstract The study of the painted rock art from Bloque 1 del Campo de Bloques 1 and Alero con Manos del Río Chalía is undertaken. Both were documented in lowlands associated to the Tar and San Martin lakes basin (South-Western Santa Cruz province). The characteristics of the sites and the rock art production sequence are summarized. Sites are contextualized within general data on regional landscape use as well as with the information from other rock art sites located at different altitudes in nearby regions. The analysis indicates a low density of rock art motifs, together with the exclusive use of painting and a low diversity of motifs in the lowlands associated with the Tar and San Martin lakes basin. All these characteristics differ from adjoining areas. Hence, the study of this rock art enables the identification of particularities of the lowlands and the evaluation of, the ranking of these areas and the dynamic of information circulation in the past.
