An approach to the pottery of the village communities of the end of the Formative period in Tilcara (Quebrada de Humahuaca). Rev. Mus. Antropol. [online]. 2020, vol.13, n.2, pp.339-348. Abstract This paper aims to visualize the current state of investigations centered in the Formative period of Tilcara (Jujuy province), focusing on pottery practices, that is to say, in the ways of doing ceramics. From a multi-dimensional perspective, our approach allowed us to start posing novel characterizations for those vessels considered locals and corresponding to that specific time frame, as well as identifying cases of extra-regional manufacturing. The analyses performed at different scales (macro and microscopic) over the different attributes of pottery, contributed to the knowledge of a technological, morphological, and functional repertoire scarcely understood. In this sense, it was also possible to generate interpretations linked to other aspects of the idiosyncrasies corresponding to the populations that inhabited the central sector of the Quebrada de Humahuaca, such as the historical trajectory of a particular way of doing ceramic pastes, and forms of consumption during the first millennia AD.
