Abstract

MALDAVSKY, David. Diagnosis of a patient with an addiction, a suicidal attempt and serious outbursts of violence: An application of the David Liberman algorithm (dla) to a clinical interview. Subj. procesos cogn. [online]. 2009, vol.13, n.1, pp.90-143. ISSN 1852-7310.

This paper investigates the psychic processes (considered as combinations between the drives and the defenses and their state) and the intersubjectivity (in the therapeutic exchange) in a patient, in which the consumption, a suicidal attempt and the violence are combined, together with other less severe manifestations. In first place the author exposes the sample, constituted by the synthesis of an interview generously sent by J.C. Perry. Thereafter the author presents the questions that the paper expects to answer, the method of investigation (the David Liberman algorithm, DLA) and the procedures. As it is a diagnostic study, we also define how it is psychoanalytically conceived (as an articulation between different psychic currents and their changes, and between the intrapsychic and intersubjective processes during the interview and during different periods of the patient's life). After that we analyze extensively the sample with two different strategies: 1) having a global perspective of the interacting psychic currents, and 2) giving coherence to the clusters of our partial results. Finally, the author discusses the outcomes of the analysis and proposes some conclusions, which include some brief comments about an innovation regarding the method of analysis (criterion of articulation between different results). The paper also shows new resources to briefly expose the analysis of the interview.
