Abstract

MELER, Irene. Love and power in gender relationships. Subj. procesos cogn. [online]. 2010, vol.14, n.1, pp.187-203. ISSN 1852-7310.

In order to analyze power relationships in married couples, I have proposed a typology that classifies relationships between women and men around an axe that goes from tradition to innovation. I describe the dynamics of conjugal relationships in traditional couples, transitional, countercultural and in innovative ones. I present findings derived from qualitative research, where we can see the complex ways in which the erotic desire, communication, work position and parenthood, articulate in such a way that it is impossible to discriminate between desire, a theoretic category that is crucial to Psychoanalysis and power relationships, a fundamental concept in Gender Studies.

Keywords : Desire; Power; Couple; Psychoanalysis; Gender.
