As a requirement for research on subjectivity, gender and work, a review of some psychoanalytic concepts and theorizations is made. In order to provide a description of the differential process of primary socialization in women and men, the need to focus on present factors versus childhood experiences surfaces. It's also convenient to recognize the influence of hazardous circumstances as well as the efficacy on the psyche of contextual influence. It's necessary to articulate classic psychoanalytic concepts with the categories of gender and social class. Issues related to work such as an ideal proposed for the self, different conditions between genders for achieving sublimatory accomplishments, and women´s difficulties at work derived from the historic process of subjective passivation are considered. Another aspect to analyze relates to the discrepancy regarding development of abilities endorsed by gender regulations. Finally, unemployment subjective effects on women and men are evaluated.
