Abstract

SIMKIN, Hugo  and  AZZOLLINI, Susana. Personality, social values and their relationship to ideological orientation and interest in current affairs: factors mediating between propaganda and public opinion. Subj. procesos cogn. [online]. 2014, vol.18, n.2, pp.178-197. ISSN 1852-7310.

While there are numerous studies that find political orientation associated to personality and social values, there is a lack of studies exploring this link in the local context. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the relationship between the five personality factors, ideological orientation, interest in political current affairs and the Schwartz Theory of Social Values, in a sample of 238 university students in the city of Buenos Aires. According to the results, the five personality factors are associated with the values proposed by Schwartz, with political orientation and interest in political current affairs, as reported regarding the international context studies. Need for further research in this area is concluded as it may lead to explore ways in which these variables affect political behaviour in the Argentine context.

Keywords : Personality; Values; Political-orientation.
