Abstract

ZUKERFELD, Rubén  and  ZONIS ZUKERFELD, Raquel. Vicissitudes of adversity: dimensional model of research. Subj. procesos cogn. [online]. 2017, vol.21, n.2, pp.217-233. ISSN 1852-7310.

As regards subjective vicissitudes when confronted with adversity, the notion of resilience has generated various instruments for its evaluation. Insofar as this is a complex construct that is not a trait nor personality structure, but a process or specific development to face different types of events or disruptive environments, many of the instruments have assessed almost exclusively ways of coping, to a greater extent than transformation potentials which give specificity to the construct. From a psychoanalytic perspective it can be said that faced with a given traumatogenic or stressful adversity, the individual becomes vulnerable and can thereafter develop resiliency as a possibility distinct from other vicissitudes. A model is presented considering three dimensions: egoic resources, global psychic functioning and interconnectedness, which can be evaluated with different quantitative and qualitative instruments, to determine subjective vicissitudes in face of adversity.

Keywords : Adversity; Resilience; Vulnerability; Interconnectedness.
