Abstract

BRAUN WILKE, Rolando H.; PICCHETTI, Luis P. E.  and  GUZMAN, Gustavo F.. Prosopis ferox gris: Current status of knowledge. Multequina [online]. 2000, vol.9, n.2, pp.19-34. ISSN 1852-7329.

Prosopis ferox is a woody species from dry Andean valleys, at medium altitude, of SW Bolivia and NW Argentina. Main value lays certainly on the role of its thickets in watershed protection. However, abusive exploitation for lumber and livestock use has turned Prosopis ferox a vulnerable resource. Contributions of the last 25 years to the knowledge of this species are reviewed. Attention has been stressed on environmental parameters in its distribution area, genecology, phenology, ecological productivity, ecophysiology, economical value, and possibilities of employing it in afforestation.

Keywords : Distribution; Fruit; Variation; Caloric power.
