Abstract

MAZZUFERI, Vilma. Insect pests in Prosopis. Multequina [online]. 2000, vol.9, n.2, pp.107-117. ISSN 1852-7329.

The mezquites, like other cultivated or spontaneous plant species, grow under various adverse factors. Insect pests, among these factors, can produce severe economic losses. As the genus Prosopis is becoming more and more important, the studies on its pest occurrence and control have increased. At present, three different situations should be taken into account: 1) pests in natural ecosystems, 2) pests in nurseries and orchards, 3) pests in plantations or urban forests. Studies on phyllophagous, xylophagous and seed feeder insects are described in this paper, with special reference to their biology, behaviour and control. Also a list of research studies on this matter is included.

Keywords : Phyllophagous; Xylophagous; Biology; Control.
