Abstract

VORRABER, Leslie B.; SEBASTIAN, M.; FERNANDEZ, E.  and  SCOFANO, M.. Urban ecology: Design of communitarian productive areas and evaluation of environmental growing conditions and species association. Multequina [online]. 2014, vol.23, n.2, pp.65-74. ISSN 1852-7329.

Since 2012 the Universidad de Flores (UFLO) is carrying out a Program of Development of Urban Agriculture at the institutional headquarters. The aim of this program is the creation of organic gardens with different systems of production and design, to be used as a model to develop productive spaces in the communities with assistance of Universidad de Flores itself, and the technical capacity of the INTA and the Pro-Huerta Program. Recycled materials and formats adapted to the urban environment are included in all the spaces of production designed, developed and built. At the same time, theoretical and practical workshops of organic garden are developed in partnership with the Pro-Huerta-INTA Program. The knowledge acquired by promoters and agents stimulates active citizenship participation in the environmental topics of contemporary city. The models of production are supported in time, and every system is monitored and analyze from the physicochemical parameters. This allows checking ideal development of the productive spaces and the use of "seasonal species" adapted to the environment and the weather of Buenos Aires city.

Keywords : Urban gardens design; Agroecology; Productive community spaces; Growing media analysis.
