The Reserva Natural de la Defensa La Calera (RNDLC) acts as a buffer area for the surrounding cities to intense rainfall events. In relation to potential flood events, it is essential to define a rector plan for the Reserve with the purpose of establishing management guidelines. The objective of this work is to characterize the soil resource, synthesized in a map. Based on topographic and vegetation maps of the RNDLC, physiographic units were defined, which eventually enabled the identification of taxonomic units. Test pits were made from which modal soil profiles were described; soil samples were taken and sent to the laboratory. The results of the soil analysis enabled us to define soil subgroups according to the Soil Taxonomy. Three geomorphological environments were differentiated: Sierra Chica, Peripheral Depression and High Loessic Pampa. In the first environment, Typical Ustifluvents and Lithic Ustorthents were identified. Fluventic and Typic Haplustolls were found in the Peripheral Depression. In the High Loessic Pampa Typical and Entic Haplustolls were founded. Soil mapping will allow the definition of a baseline from which environmental changes can be monitored.
