Abstract
DAGA, Inés Claudia; FERNANDEZ BELMONTE, María Cecilia and SANTIAGO, María Reyna. Phytoplankton composition and evaluation of the trophic status of the La Quebrada Reservoir, Córdoba, Argentina. Multequina [online]. 2021, vol.30, n.1, pp.31-40. ISSN 1852-7329.
La Quebrada Reservoir is located on the eastern slopes of the Sierras Chicas, 32 km from the city of Córdoba and supplies water to the towns of Río Ceballos, Unquillo and Mendiolaza. The objective of the work was to evaluate the trophic state of the reservoir through the physical-chemical and biological variables. Seasonal samplings were carried out from summer 2014 to summer 2016, in the closing wall of the reservoir and the mouth of the tributaries. Samples were obtained for identification and quantitative analysis of phytoplankton, performing measurements of transparency, temperature, pH, electrical conductivity, and dissolved oxygen. Chlorophyll a and nutrients were estimated. Relative frequencies, biomass, and diversity were calculated and the Carlson trophic state index was estimated. One-hundred and twenty-eight taxa were identified, the dominant phytoplankton organism being the dinoflagellate Ceratium furcoides. According to the trophic status index, La Quebrada Reservoir is classified as eutrophic, an undesirable condition in an environment used to supply drinking water.
