Abstract

CORREA-ARELLANO, C.E.  and  GUTARRA-VILCHEZ, R.B.. In vitro inhibitory effect of algarrobin from Prosopis pallida against Escherichia coli. Multequina [online]. 2021, vol.30, n.1, pp.55-65. ISSN 1852-7329.

The objective of this work was to evaluate the in vitro effect of algarrobin from Prosopis pallida against Escherichia coli. The effect of algarrobin from Prosopis pallida against Escherichia coli was demonstrated by the agar diffusion method. The minimum inhibitory concentration was determined by the agar diffusion method, using algarrobin at 5 different concentrations that were put in contact with Escherichia coli. It was found that inhibition halos were formed when Escherichia coli was put in contact with algarrobin. The diameter of the inhibition halos decreased as algarrobin concentration decreased. At the concentration of 25% V / V, no inhibition halo was observed. Algarrobin from Prosopis pallida has antibacterial effect on Escherichia coli, with a minimum inhibitory concentration of 50% V/V. The magnitude of bacterial inhibition varies in direct relation to the concentration of algarrobin with a margin of error of 5%. There is no statistically significant difference between the degree of inhibition of Escherichia coli when using algarrobin at 100% or algarrobin at 75%, when the confidence interval is 99%.
