Abstract

PALACIOS, Ernesto  and  GARCIA, Alejandro. Historical reconstruction of the late pre-Hispanic and early Colonial irrigation system of Mendoza. Multequina [online]. 2021, vol.30, n.1, pp.181-201. ISSN 1852-7329.

The irrigation system of the Guentata Valley, where the city of Mendoza is currently located, was a fundamental base for the development of human settlement and the Colonial economy of the region. The objective of this work is to reconstruct, through the cross-analysis of historical data, the network of indigenous ditches of the 16th century on which the local Colonial irrigation system was based. The resulting proposal precisely establishes the location of the main components of the system and its nomenclature changes in subsequent centuries.

Keywords : Irrigation system; Ditches; Historical method; Colonial period; Mendoza.
