Abstract

MORENO, Gabriela; MARTINEZ CARRETERO, Eduardo  and  ALCALA, Jorge. Evaluation of dry atmospheric sedimentation in Morus alba in the city of Mendoza, Argentina. Multequina [online]. 2022, vol.31, n.1, pp.28-36. ISSN 1852-7329.

Dry atmospheric sedimentation is a mechanism for removing particulates by transferring the atmosphere to a variety of surfaces, including tree leaves. Several studies have considered the process to be a bioindicator. This work was aimed at assessing, along an urbanization gradient, and during a complete vegetative cycle, the sedimented solids in M. alba’s leaves. Three well-defined sectors were established: micro-town, suburban, and periurban. The content of sedimented particles was obtained by weight difference and was expressed in unit of leaf surface. Sedimented solids per cm2 of foliage were statistically different (p<0.05) according to location along the vegetative cycle, being major in autumn bringing the idea of the low leaching tax by scarce rainfalls. The increase of particle material, in g/cm2 of foliar area, is toward the micro-town; however, according to the foliar biomass per tree, the increase is toward the suburban areas indicating a clear influence of the tree structure that in these areas conserves the typical physiognomy of canopy possibility a higher accumulation of particle material.
