Abstract

JAVIER, Herrera; QUEVEDO, Claudia  and  QUINN, Eduardo. Comparison of three models to find the best anatomical representation in body image perception among university students in nutrition, Universidad del Salvador. Diaeta [online]. 2013, vol.31, n.143, pp.07-12. ISSN 1852-7337.

This paper compares three pictograms , here referred to as Models, used in previous works, to know which one adapts best to the body image perception (BIP) of future nutrition professionals. The three pictograms showed the same characteristic: THE HIGHEST THE BMI, THE LOWEST DISTORTION OF BODY IMAGE. The most important distortion was observed in those people that presented a lower BMI (weight and height); that is to say, Low Weight. In this respect the Relative Risk (RR) in favour of Low Weight was calculated for the three models. In model 1, RR=1,73 (1,13; 2,69) significant, and a level of agreement according to Cohen's Kappa index of 5% non-significant. Model 2 showed a RR=2,57 (1,55; 3,33) significant and an agreement index of 10% non-significant. In model 3, RR=4,32 (2,18; 8,56) significant but a Kappa index of 32,6%, the highest and most significant. As observed, model 3 is the one that shows the most agreement, but also a higher RR in favour of low weight. This is because this model concentrated observation on the normoweight. It can be said that this model is the one that should be used if people have normoweight according to the BMI calculated by weight and height.
