Abstract

MEHRING, Juliana et al. Quality of life related to health in children and adolescents with chronic kidney disease. Diaeta [online]. 2016, vol.34, n.157, pp.07-13. ISSN 1852-7337.

Introduction: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a complex pathology, it is necessary to assess its impact on the child’s life. Studying the quality of life related to health (HRQOL) improves the choices for treatment strategies. Objective: To determine the HRQOL in children and adolescents with CKD conservative treatment, following their perception and that of their parents, and its relation to restrictions regarding their food plan. Materials and Method: A descriptive, observational, crosssectional design. The sample consisted of children between 2-18 years old and their parents. The PedsQLTM 4.0 questionnaire was applied. HRQOL and its relationship with food plan as well as the perception of parents and children were evaluated. SPSS 20.0. Results: The study involved 84 children and their parents. The perception of parents was higher in the total score (p=0.041), psychosocial (p=0.042) and school (p=0.007) scores, in relation to children’s perception. Regarding restrictions in the eating plan, significant differences in the physical domain of parents (p=0.044) were found. Conclusions: Discordance on HRQOL between parents and children was evident. Regarding dietary restrictions, differences in the physical domain of parents were observed.
