Abstract

ROSSI, Paula Adriana. Social-family situation of elderly people attending medical consultation at Centenario Hospital, in Gualeguaychú city, and its relationship with nutritional status. Diaeta [online]. 2017, vol.35, n.158, pp.33-37. ISSN 1852-7337.

The proportion of people over 60 is increasing much faster than any other age group in almost all countries as a result of increased life expectancy and declining fertility rates. The aim of this research was to know the social-family situation of elderly people attending medical consultation at Centenario Hospital, in Gualeguaychú City, and its relationship with nutritional status. Correlational, cross-sectional study, with a quantitative approach. Data was collected through a survey that resulted from a personal interview to the elderly. Gijon’s social-family and Mini Nutritional Assessment evaluation scales were included in the body of the survey. Statistical tests showed that the highest number of cases studied was in good nutritional and social status. Data was related and 2 correlational statistical tests were applied: Pearson and Spearman. These tests confirmed that there is a significant relationship between these two variables. It was observed how the nutritional situation is compromised when social risk increases. In relation to this, a food-nutrition interdisciplinary approach is needed as a protective factor and health promotion, in this age group.
