Abstract

ARANEDA, SERGIO GONZÁLEZ. “The Image Does not Teach Anything”: Notes on the Problem of Knowledge in the Sartrean Theory of the Imaginary. Rev. latinoam. filos. [online]. 2022, vol.48, n.1, pp.1-10. ISSN 1852-7353.  http://dx.doi.org/10.36446/rlf2022245.

We propose to examine the epistemological status that co- rresponds to the Sartrean theory of the imaginary. For this, it is necessary to follow two lines of analysis. First, we will establish similarities and differences presented by Sartre on the act of perceiving and imagining. In the second place, we will consider one of the fundamental characteristics of all cons- ciousness that imagines: the intentional creation of the world. Finally, we will clarify the problem of the epistemological status of the consciousness that imagines in direct relation to its ontological and aesthetic character. With this, we will give an account of the validity of the Sartrean approach to the phenomenological theory of image, imagination and the imaginary.

Keywords : creation; imagination; imaginary; perception; Sartre.
